AAK Cooperative develops and produces some really unique washed coffee in Papua New Guinea. AAK is an umbrella organization tying together 3 small cooperatives across the Western and Eastern highlands - Apo, Angra and Kange coops which all mean "brother" in their local languages. AAK promotes sustainable livelihoods through implementing new practices to improve quality of coffee of the respective smallholder growers. AAK cooperative also educates the respective farmers on financial planning, gender based equality, health & education and introduced mobile banking (AAK has also funded 5 students to university).
GIMIYUFA VILLAGE - Cluster #004
The Gimiyufa Village is situated in the Asaro area of the Eastern Highlands. This small village is producing exquisite 'micro lot' coffee through the implementation and practices developed by the AAK Cooperative. The Gimiyufa Village cluster #004 is made up of 18 smallholder families. The unity that this small group share is unique in the sense that the 18 families will all come together and harvest cherry collectively as a team from each other's coffee plant gardens.
